A survey conducted in twelve European countries shows that consumers are adopting a more and more environmentally-friendly conduct.
There are more and more Europeans making environmental protection part of their daily lives. They have now gone beyond good intentions. They are finally acting on them. According to the Observatoire Cetelem, which polled 8 000 persons across twelve European countries, green consumption habits are undeniably on the rise in Europe.
The most popular eco-conduct is the use of recycled paper (63 % of those polled). In second position comes carrying out home improvements for better energy efficiency (40 %). Organic product consumption continues progressing slowly but surely: close to four out of ten Europeans claim eating some organic food. Regarding transportation, behaviour is also evolving: 32 % of Europeans have already given up one trip or chosen an ecological means of transportation and 30 % have already purchased a “green” car!
All Europeans do not put in the same amount of effort. The Champions of eco-conduct are the Portuguese and the British. At the other end, the Russians have the most difficulties changing behaviour. The biggest consumers of organic products are not necessarily those we would expect: the Polish and the Portuguese come first. When it comes to transportation, the Germans are the most concerned with the environment: one fourth have chosen to buy a “green” car several times in their lives.
At the latest French Week of Sustainable Development, which was held from April 1 to 7, emphasis was given to all the small everyday gestures which make consumers feel eco-responsible. Lots of ideas were available for those who wanted to get started but did not know how!
