CITROËN IN GENEVA: THE ENVIRONMENT IN HONOUR
04-03-2010
04-03-2010
From March 4 to March 14, at the Geneva International Motor Show, Citroën presents a bouquet of environmentally friendly products and services.
The C-ZERO is showcased of course, occupying a prime position on Citroën’s stand. It is not however the only car to demonstrate the Brand’s commitment to the environment. Citroën has been following, consistently and for many years, a policy aimed at reducing fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. The outcome is that, today, Citroën is among the leaders in environmental design: 42% of its marketed vehicles emit no more than 130g/km (a third do not exceed 120g); both the C3 and the DS3 are available in a 99g/km version; the second generation Stop&Start system will become standard as of 2010; and Citroën will launch a full hybrid vehicle in 2011, the DS5.
With the same concern for Green Driving, Citröen introduces a new technology in Geneva: the e-HDI system which combines an HDi engine with a second generation Stop&Start system. This technology enables the batteries to regenerate their energy while slowing down and braking and thus, contributes to a reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. The system will be presented via the Picasso C3 e-HDi demonstration vehicle. The latter also features 70 photovoltaic cells on its roof to recharge the battery and was produced with 20 % green materials. Citroën set itself the objective to use 20 % green materials on each new model as of 2011.
Citroën also presents, as one of its brand new range of e-Touch services, a feature with an environmentally high added value: the ecodriving service. Thanks to a small box placed in the vehicle, drivers can check on the Internet information relating to their fuel consumption and carbon footprint. An excellent opportunity to determine the impact of one’s driving habits on the environment…
The concept cars exhibited in Geneva also demonstrate Citroën’s environmental commitment. The glamorous and sporty Survolt is fully electric. It is quite unexpected and audacious for such a vehicle! As for the DS High Rider, a concept car foreshadowing a production model, it has a Full Hybrid 4 traction chain. All these products and services are extremely innovative and respectful of the environment. They are also establishing Citroën as one of the main players for an eco-friendly and responsible mobility.
